FC Denton Soars Past Rangers FC in NTPSL Opener

3/11/18 Denia Park, Denton, TX

Joakim "Ewa" Coleman finished from the spot, late in the game, to hand FC Denton their first victory for the Spring 2018 season; capping off a solid display against former div. 1B champions, Rangers FC.

The hosts controlled a majority of the possession throughout the day; taking a little time to get things settled

and creating a number of opportunities as they tried to break down the stingy Rangers defense, on a very windy day. The breakthrough came in the 70th min., when Ewa was brought down and awarded a free kick, about 20 yards from goal, and calmly curled his shot around the wall (picking up a deflection on the way) and finding it's way in the back of the net!

Corbin Rodriguez and the FCDTN defense kept things controlled in the back, displaying a disciplined and strong display on their way to their first clean sheet of the season; showing the work done this preseason is already paying off.

"We were kicking a bit of rust off the boots to start, but the boys put it together and controlled the remainder of the game.", Rodriguez told " I'm happy with the result and will be looking for the same next week!"

Club president, Carlos Olate was all smiles at the end of the day, but not taking

things for granted after the club picked up its first victory.

"We've prepared like never before (for this season) and after the 3 week delay; I'm happy to get the first game out of the way." club president, Carlos Olate, told " We knew the first one would be a good indicator of where we are and where we need to be and after today; I'd say we're looking pretty good! I would've liked to see us finish more of our chances but it was a very windy day and the grass was a bit longer than we'd like; so we won't hold it against them too much.

I was more excited to see how tight our defense was (starting off the season with a clean sheet) and seeing Coach Gallegos' work already start to flesh out. It was also great to see our CB duo of Irvin Pinales and Richie Aguirre reunited to help us stay clean! It's a long season and every team we face will be a new experience, so we'll take these 3 points today and start to prepare for 3 more next Sunday."

Your FC Denton travel to the Five Star Soccer Complex, #8 in The Colony for game 2 on March 18th (weather permitting); facing off against Crusaders A.F.C @ 1PM.
