The Spring 2018 season officially kicked off for FC Denton on January 20th as players reported for preseason training at the Game On Athletics training grounds, in Denton,TX.
19 players returned from the Fall 2018 team, who went on the impressive division 2 regular season run of 9 wins, 1 loss and +40 GD, and despite the season ending in a frustrating 2-1 loss in the division 2 seminal; spirits were high among the returning players as they begin to prepare for possible entry into the first division of the NTPSL.
"I'm excited to return and prove the potential of this team," starting LB Gean Figari told fcdentonsoccer.com. "I think our chemistry has improved and our confidence is at an all time high; even after the disappointing end to last season. I knew we were capable of winning the division 2 championship, but hopefully what we did in the regular season gets us promoted. What I'm really looking forward to is seeing how competitive the teams in the first division will be. I think they're going to help us find our weaknesses, and really help us improve!"
Joining the returning FCDTN players were 6 trial players, vying for a spot on the roster. The club opens their preseason sessions to tryout players in an effort to attract more of the talent, not only in Denton but around the DFW; like Mike Jimenez of Garland,TX.
"I was looking for somewhere more competitive to play, with better competition so I came to check it out", Jimenez told fcdentonsoccer.com. "I want to be around more skillful players so I can improve and this was more than great, so I'll keep coming out (as long as they'll have me)".
After spending some time working on possession and transitional play; the team split up into smaller teams and played small sided games, which emphasized shooting, and then completed the session with a full field scrimmage.
The club plans to hold more tryouts as they work toward the season opener on Feb. 18th and await a decision on promotion to the first division.
